Turn output into degrees per hour

Convert rated kilowatts to heat per hour, then compare that rate with the energy needed to raise the pool's actual gallons. The theoretical result assumes no loss, so real warm-up will be slower. This exercise often reveals that a modest plug-in unit is a maintenance helper rather than a rapid recovery heater for a family-size pool.

A dedicated circuit may still be required

A standard-looking plug does not mean the heater may share a receptacle with the circulation pump, lights or yard tools. Give the heater a smaller problem

Know the upgrade triggers

If calculations show multi-day recovery, the household swims in cold weather, or the heater requires nearly continuous operation without holding temperature, reconsider the system. A professionally planned 240V unit, heat pump, gas heater or solar-assisted design may better fit. The right answer may also be a lower target temperature and disciplined cover use rather than a larger appliance.
