Trace the valve path

Confirm that the diverter actually sends water into the solar feed and that the return is open. A loose actuator, reversed handle label, blocked check valve, or service bypass can leave the collectors isolated. Never rotate a valve into a position that can deadhead the running pump; shut down and follow the hydraulic diagram.

Look for flow restrictions and air

A dirty filter, collapsed hose, undersized adapter, excessive series connections, high roof, or suction-side air leak can reduce flow. Persistent bubbles at the return, a pump that will not stay primed, or a fluctuating pressure gauge deserves attention. Clean and service components only by their manuals, and stop if the system cannot hold safe pressure.

Reassess sun and collector area

Seasonal shadows can reach panels that were sunny earlier in summer. Compare actual unshaded hours with the original plan and inspect for debris or damage. If flow and controls are correct but output remains modest, the collector area may be small relative to the water surface and the desired season. Additional panels still must stay within system limits.

Escalate leaks, wiring, and pressure problems

Water near electrical equipment, a cracked panel, damaged roof penetration, scorched wiring, abnormal pressure, or a breaker that trips is not a trial-and-error problem. Shut the system down safely and call a qualified pool, electrical, or roofing professional as appropriate. Do not bypass safety controls to force the solar loop to run.
